Extensive use of DORMA automatics and MANET system at new St Pancras

Product specifications are of the most demanding standard throughout the new landmark St Pancras International Station, not least for those items that relate directly to public safety and convenience. Pedestrian traffic volume is extremely high and DORMA, as the world market leader in glass fittings, automatics, door controls, and accessories, was the natural choice to supply its proven and stylish MANET flexible modular glass door and partition system, along with automatic products throughout key areas in the building.

DORMA MANET, with its characteristic single-point fixings, has been installed at the St Pancras complex. With its frameless pivoting and sliding doors and space-configuring glass partitions, the DORMA MANET system uses a combination of glass and stainless steel to optimum effect in providing an extremely tough, but totally elegant internal architectural design solution.

To complement the MANET installations, ten pairs of ED200 automatic doors and four pairs of DORMA’s ED200i have been installed throughout the complex. The fire-rated ED200 units have been installed to control the fire escape lobby doors throughout St Pancras. During an emergency, fire doors and exit doors must continue to open for people to exit, but close firmly to prevent the fire or smoke spreading. The ED200’s unique package of safety, security and interfacing features makes it ideal – even for the most demanding high traffic applications.

The four pairs of ED200i operators control the doors to the Eurostar customs hall and departure lounge and feature stainless steel door leaves. Unlike traditional swing door surface mounted operators these drive units are only 150mm high and 152mm deep, fitting almost invisibly into the transom above the doors and forming part of the framework surrounding the door. The DORMA ED200i also incorporates an optional breakout facility enabling rapid and unhindered escape in either direction during an emergency.

A DORMA ES200 sliding automatic operator has also been installed on the Business Lounge at St Pancras Station. The flexible and functional unit offers visually appealing aesthetics, and is available in a broad range of surface finished. The ES200 system solution is a modern and stylish cover design that features clean contours and perforated end caps to compliment any design scheme. Fully compliant with the highest safety requirement, the ES200 features a new microprocessor that automatically controls the opening and closing speeds of the door.
