DORMA access solutions for schools on Stand 525 at BSEC 08
DORMA, the world’s leading supplier of door controls, automatic door systems and movable walls, is exhibiting on Stand 525 at this years Building Schools Exhibition and Conference, on Feb 12th and 13th at Manchester Central, the renamed Manchester International Convention Centre and GMEX.
Providing safe access and egress for schools is a demanding and responsible task and DORMA offers an unrivalled range of product solutions, combined with years of expertise in providing help with security, health & safety requirements – and helping you to meet the requirements of SENDA.
BSEC 08 uniquely brings together the key stakeholders responsible for the implementation of the Government's Building Schools for the Future, Academies and Primary programmes, and DORMA is taking this opportunity to showcase working examples of its most popular products specified for the school environment.
The automatics on display include the ever dependable DORMA ED200 electro-hydraulic swing door operator. The only automatic swing door operator on the market with CERTIFIRE approval and for many the operator of choice for fire doors and external emergency exits.
There is the ED 800, which for most of the time operates as a standard manual door closer. However, immediately someone requires assistance, its low energy mode can be activated by a number of methods and the door opens as an automatic. One method of activation is by handheld remote control, which enables convenient operation for individual students requiring assisted access. Also on display are two examples of the completely redesigned ES200 sliding door operator with its virtually silent new motor, stylishly clean contours and perforated end caps that complement any design scheme.
When it comes to manual operators DORMA cam-action closers are hard to better in a school setting. Each features a unique linear drive mechanism and heart-shaped cam, which means that when the door is opened the opening force falls away rapidly after the first few degrees, resulting in little resistance throughout the opening cycle. The result is a much easier and safer door operation for children, those carrying books and equipment and for people with physical disabilities. The specific products on show are the TS92, the TS93 which has a delayed action feature as standard, and the ITS96 – which offers all the benefits of a cam action door closer, but is completely concealed within the door leaf and frame.
While emergency exit doors from school halls, classrooms and general utility areas have to be opened with the minimum of effort from inside, they also have to be totally secure from intruders on the outside. The DORMA AD4000 full door width touchbar, meets this requirement perfectly, and it has the option of an electric strike alarm as an alert when the door is opened.
All the doors on display have finger guards to prevent trapped fingers – an essential requirement for any school – and in keeping with this, the OGRO 8100 lever handle is also on show. The 8100 is preferred for DDA purposes because its round bar design has no sharp edges, and the ‘return to door’ styling prevents hands slipping off the end of the lever, or loose clothing being caught.
DORMA is even taking the opportunity to showcase its revolutionary new MOVEO® lightweight movable wall system that allows large classrooms, halls and catering areas to be quickly sectioned off into smaller self-contained units – and quickly opened up again as required. At around half the weight of most conventional alternatives it’s the first radical alternative system since movable walls first appeared on the market.
