DORMA VISUR – Create all-glass doors with no visible fittings
Toughened glass doors are becoming increasingly popular, not only in commercial, educational, retail and institutional applications, but also for domestic situations as well. A double action swing door, with all its functional advantages is often the preferred option and the sophisticated new VISUR double action pivot system from DORMA is a real boon to interior architecture – making it possible to incorporate all-glass double-action doors without any visible fixings.
The VISUR system is especially attractive to clients who place particular emphasis on all-glass transparency and spaciousness in their living areas, offices, reception, meeting rooms, or any other areas for that matter.
Rather than interfering with the clear outline of the leaf, the hardware components are all located in the surrounding structures, and this complete absence of fittings means that the all-glass double-action door can match any room style.
The patented VISUR system has a totally discrete presence and being frameless from top to toe, it makes life easier for architects and specifiers alike, as any material or colour can be chosen for the surrounding structures. VISUR makes it possible for design ideas to come to life and not be inhibited in any way, as the system will comfortably blend with any design concept and help reflect it to maximum advantage.
Central to this simple but remarkably effective floor spring is the easy-to-machine glass shape of the VISUR leaf. Clampable projections – or ‘tongues’ – cut out in the glass provide the mating connection for the pivot fittings. The bottom glass tongue is inserted in the floor pivot located in the recessed casing. At the top, the upper tongue disappears into the top pivot unit located in the discretely concealed overhead transom box. This box conceals the DORMA RTS 85G (spring strength EN 4) which performs the safe closer function, reliably returning the door to its adjustable zero position after each operation. It also features a backcheck to prevent any door contact with the frame and adjustable closing speed. The VISUR system, which has a 65mm offset pivot, operates with 10 or 12 mm thick glass and is suitable for high-usage doors, having been endurance tested to over 500,000 operating cycles.
