Interior glass door innovation from DORMA

The interior doors market is increasingly turning to glass as a stylish and attractive solution – particularly for those projects involving sophisticated domestic, hotel, restaurant and retail applications. It provides increased light, a greater feeling of spaciousness – particularly useful when designing multi-room applications with only one exterior wall. Glass is a versatile material that can be customised through the use of coloured or patterned designs screen printed or etched onto the glass.

DORMA is known for its quality and innovation in this area, and has four different solutions for interior glass door applications. For really tight spaces there is the AGILE 50, a sliding door system so slender that even small doors appear to be generously proportioned. It is easy to install, no glass preparation is required and operation is almost silent. Available in a wide range of colours, it can be suitably matched to its surroundings – and it is perfectly at home in wet rooms as well (EN 1670, Class 4).

BEYOND is a unique glass door system with both pivoting and sliding door alternatives. With the swing door version there is no risk of pinched fingers, as the pivot-point of the patented door fitting is so close to the glass edge that the nip hazard usually associated with swing doors is completely eliminated. For sliding doors, BEYOND has a round profile fitting, optimal door movement and the articulated mounting of the roller carrier guarantees equal loading of the two parallel-running rollers, ensuring that the centre of gravity of the door is always in balance.

A flexible modular system that gives architects and designers a free hand to create pivoting or sliding doors, space configuring glass partitions or customised furniture design, is the MANET Concept, with its distinctive, countersunk, single-point fixings which unobtrusively connect and support the glass. The MANET Concept range has now been enhanced with the introduction of the MANET Neu, which has a softer design appeal and can be installed faster due to its ease of adjustment.

Finally, a clever new double-action hinge has been introduced too, that eliminates the need for a floor spring and cover plate. The mechanism is cleverly and discreetly integrated within the robust fitting, which can be installed directly into masonry. The adjustable spring force – which brings the door safely back to a zero position – can be set for any application, whether it is for a walk-in wardrobe or a busy entrance door. It is a DDA friendly solution too, as there is a maximum opening force of only 7N when the door leaf is in a closed position (based on a door width of 1000mm).
