DORMA at Interbuild 2004. Architectural Pavilion

DORMA UK Limited, a subsidiary of the German based DORMA Group, is one of the world’s leading suppliers of automatic and manual door systems, associated hardware, glass fittings, sliding partition and movable wall systems. DORMA have introduced a number of new products and services since the last Interbuild.

DORMA Hüppe Movable Wall systems offer a high degree of quality, functionality and diversity for the partitioning and interior design sector. Their aesthetic appeal and reliable operating technology combine to offer a space maximization solution for practically any application. One of the systems, the DORMA Hüppe Variflex range, with its extensive range of panel types and surface finishes, combined with high sound insulation ratings, is ideal for large-scale multi-functional spatial layouts. Each room or area can be designed with its own character and integrated features – stainless steel inserts, window units, brushed and waxed sucupira wood for example – all add to the appeal. The resulting visual effect is particularly impressive in projects such as hotel complexes, conference centres and luxury liners.

The new range of cover options for DORMA’s door closer range makes it possible to integrate the closers with practically any interior design scheme and create a fully co-ordinated look throughout the building – and for refurbishment projects, existing door closers can be updated to match the new styling. Rack and pinion closers are available in three different cover options and a whole new range of finishes and colours, while the unique DORMA cam action range has two cover options and a similarly wide-ranging choice of new colours and finishes. As far as DDA compliance is concerned, people with disabilities, the elderly and young children have fewer problems using doors that incorporate the DORMA cam action technology, as it results in a rapidly decreasing resistance throughout the opening cycle.

The new DORMA Compact Slide door operator, at around one-quarter the size of comparable operators, is arguably the neatest, most attractive sliding door operator ever designed. It measures just 100 mm x 100 mm in cross-section, yet does not compromise on performance, reliability or safety. As with all DORMA automatic operators, the new Compact Slide incorporates facilities that allow connection to a wide range of safety sensors, ensuring that all installations comply in full with the relevant British Standards. The compact unobtrusiveness of the new operator is particularly beneficial in applications involving large glazed areas, working particularly well with the Manet system.

DORMA’s glass division is renowned for innovative thinking and there have been some new developments with the Manet Concept system. To complement the original Manet system, Manet Neu has been designed to offer new visual possibilities and installation benefits for the less experienced installer. The Manet system has countersunk single-point fixings for clean non-intrusive glass support and this approach is continued with Manet Neu, but its improved flexibility means that the specifier is able to create more complex assemblies, confident in the knowledge that they are achievable in practice. There is a new roller fitting for sliding doors with a softer design and an enhanced pivoting system, which has one pivot point located at the centre of the panel reducing pinch hazards. Installation and adjustment of both the sliding and pivoting doors is easy, clip-on covers are engineered with spring tension to ensure they can be quickly placed in position once installation is complete and track installation is made easier with the introduction of new clamp fittings.

DORMA’s Manet Construct range sets new standards in meeting the specific requirements of structural glazing systems used in the construction of external and internal walls, facades and roofs. A key feature of the range is the Manet Spider, a fascinating design element that enhances any façade. Whether in straight line, segmented or circular configurations with curved glazing, the Manet Construct Spider both enhances design and improves connection safety. It is available in two sizes, with a choice of one to four arms. The articulated joint with its three dimensional movement in the Spider hub helps compensate for any building tolerances by absorbing the load at all the fixing points, while the resilient single-point fixings compensate for thermal expansion and glass panel deformation.

A new system of ties and glass clamps that add stability to intricate building designs has been developed by the Glass division of DORMA. Known as the RODAN system, it is essentially a kit of components from which simple yet effective assemblies can be built, ranging from basic tie connections to complex cross bracing. The basic elements are round-section rods, fork end pieces and a circular hub and coupler, which link together to form a flexible tie assembly. The rod has either a right-handed, or left-handed thread to match that of the respective fork ends. The system can be adjusted and re-tightened once it has been assembled. The coupler and hub allow designers an enormous amount of creative scope as the coupler can be used across large spans with no reduction in safety or reliability.
CPD at Interbuild

DORMA works closely with architects and designers, offering advice and technical guidance across the entire product range. CPD presentations on Glass and the DDA will be held in the RIBA section and the DDA CPD will also be presented in the conference room in the architectural pavilion. The company is recognised as a specialist on Disability Discrimination Act issues as they relate to access, emergency egress and the provision of accessible toilets. DORMA is listed on the CPD and Disability access trails.

As a final note, to encourage as much traffic to their stand as possible, DORMA are offering visitors the chance to win free lottery tickets in a giveaway promotion.
