DORMA automatic door operators have been installed in a number of Metropolitan Police force stations in order to improve access for disabled people and to bring the buildings into compliance with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.
Under the terms of the DDA, which will come in force in 2004, it will be unlawful to discriminate against any disabled person on the grounds of their disability. For the owners and occupiers of all buildings to which the public has access, this means making what the Act calls ‘reasonable adjustments’ to ensure that people with physical disabilities have equal access into and throughout the building.
In many cases, these reasonable adjustments involve the fitting of automatic or power-assisted doors, and at police stations throughout the Metropolitan region, DORMA has been selected to provide the appropriate solution and fulfil the Met’s aim – to ensure their police stations and service are available to everyone, from people in wheelchairs to mums with pushchairs.
The DORMA product range has yielded the ideal combination of door equipment necessary for upgrading the Met’s stations. All stations are undergoing a standard refurbishment, and meeting the DDA requirements is an important part of this. more…
