DORMA and Omega joint fire test sets exceptional new standard

An Omega door, fitted with a DORMA ITS 96 concealed cam action overhead mounted door closer, was recently tested to 1200ºC and achieved over four hours fire certification. This has never before been achieved by this DORMA product, or by any competitive products in respect of concealed closers.

The fire standards still allow uninsulated doors to be used for certain applications and this was chosen for the test as it would present the toughest challenge to both the door and the closer. The actual door used was a fire rated, 18 gauge industry standard Omega metal door and no intumescent product was used around the DORMA ITS 96 door closer. Despite this, the hydraulic fluid used in the concealed closer did not ignite during the test.

There is a growing demand for metal fire doors and the DORMA ITS 96 closer is the ideal answer to achieving a really aesthetic finish as the closer body and slide channel are so compact that in doors of 40mm thickness or more they can be concealed in the door and frame. This hidden installation also protects against vandalism and self-harm.
