DDA expertise from DORMA at Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust

Hammersmith Hospital, part of the Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust, now houses the west London renal and transplant centre in a brand new £40 million purpose-built development. The 9000 square metre, five-storey building – which is not a PFI project – centralises inpatient renal services which were previously spread between Hammersmith, Charing Cross and St Mary's Hospitals. The unit, which comprises 182 beds, a rapid assessment area, offices and administrative space offers unrivalled patient care and is the largest renal centre in Europe.

As with all hospitals, the centre experiences high pedestrian traffic and the need for safe access and egress is paramount. In particular, people with disabilities, or those receiving treatment are likely to require a greater degree of assistance in moving around in and safely exiting the premises, making it imperative that the various door controls are consistently reliable and effective.

A combination of solutions

DORMA has a reputation for excellence when it comes to meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act and Hammersmith features a combination of their automatic and manual door control solutions.
