DORMA makes the headlines at iconic new Birmingham Post & Mail offices
DORMA glass doors, screens and partitions have been installed at the iconic new Fort Dunlop headquarters of the Birmingham Post & Mail. Trinity Mirror Midlands, owners of the Birmingham Post & Mail Ltd, are relocating after 150 years in Birmingham City centre and have taken the entire top floor of the building – all 53,582sq ft of it. At over an acre in area, this makes it the largest open plan office space in the country outside of London.
M Moser Associates, the interior architects who specialise in creating stunning workplace environments, were responsible for the new interior space transformation and chose DORMA products specifically for the project. Anton Jeanes, Associate at M MOSER explains: “Our design brief priority was to make the most of this enormous light, airy space. The aesthetic styling of the DORMA products suited the predominantly open plan design perfectly. Harbrine, the architectural ironmongers involved on the project, have specialist knowledge of DORMA and the partnership was extremely effective all round”.
Twenty-one sets of the unique DORMA BEYOND glass door system provide an impressive solution, providing individual work areas with the open plan concept. The DORMA BEYOND system opens up a huge range of opportunities for incorporating frameless glass doors into toughened glass assemblies and wall openings, offering an elegant, technically perfect solution for swing and sliding doors in all situations, whether private or public and in traditional or contemporary surroundings.
At Fort Dunlop the clever pinch free swing-door system has been installed, avoiding any possibility of fingers becoming trapped as can happen at the secondary closing edges of conventional glass swing doors.
The system is complemented with DORMA MANET over panel connectors and doorstops for the glass screens, along with DORMA Studio Rondo Patch Locks. These are designed for demanding office environments and combine reliable service with a range that is comprehensive enough to offer maximum scope for design opportunities. An aluminium finish has been specified by M Moser on this occasion, but cover caps in stainless steel or brass are also available.
DORMA BTS75V universal floor springs, which work so successfully with a wide range of door constructions and floor coverings, are also incorporated into the design and offer maximum reliability and durability.
Fort Dunlop was for many years the headquarters and factory of the Dunlop Rubber company, but for the last quarter century stood abandoned until its dramatic redeveloped by regeneration specialists Urban Splash.
