DORMA provides further assistance to meet the requirements of the DDA with revised “Which Door Control?” Brochure
DORMA’s new “Which Door Control?” brochure has been updated to include new improved performance figures of their closers and the latest information on ADM and BS8300. Useful details such as DORMA’s comprehensive range of concealed, cam-action, and rack & pinion door closers as well as floor springs are included. Graham Hulland, Product Marketing Manager for DORMA comments: “The selection and specification of door closers that comply with Approved Document M and Approved Document B is still causing some confusion in the marketplace.” Under ADM and BS8300, the selection of door closers fitted to manual doors is vital as the opening force of the complete doorset should not exceed 30N from 0 to 30 degrees of opening, and 22.5N from 30 to 60 degrees of opening. Graham continues: “Since 2005 when these opening force requirements were first introduced we have been continually developing our products and many now comply at much lower door widths. Because of this, DORMA felt it was important to issue a revised version of our “Which Door Control?” brochure, and offer clear guidance on exactly which DORMA door controls perform to these requirements”.
Full details of the original guidance issued by the ODPM in March 2005, which is now included into BS8300:2001, incorporating Amendment No. 1, are in the brochure. Also included is an overview of the current fire regulations concerning fire doors under Approved Document B, and the importance of third party testing. A quick reference section of Frequently Asked Questions aims to clarify any confusion over the current regulations.
The brochure also offers advice on the specification of external doors that comply with the ADM regulations. A selection of DORMA automatic doors, including their sliding, swing, low energy, folding and space saving automatics, are included in the brochure for further guidance.
