Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order - SERVICE & MAINTENANCE OF FIRE & ESCAPE DOORS

FIRE CERTIFICATES ABOLISHED!

Many will be familiar with the traditional Fire Certificate, issued by the Fire Service, which certified that

your building complied with all relevant fire safety legislation. Combined with the necessary checks and

maintenance documents, this certificate demonstrated that you had fulfilled all of your obligations and

was vital in securing your building insurance.

With the introduction of the RR(FS)O, the Fire Certificate was abolished, leaving the proof of compliance
in the hands of the building owner or other responsible person. Instead of inspecting premises and issuing
certificates, the Fire Service now performs spot checks to ensure compliance with the new regulations.

HAVE YOU COMPLETED YOUR RISK ASSESSMENT?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that the “Responsible Person” for the building
MUST complete their own risk assessment for the fire safety of the building and put in place any measures
resulting from the risk assessment. Failure to do so could result in a fine or imprisonment (or both) and
would invalidate any building insurance.

HOW CAN DORMA HELP?

An important part of your risk assessment is to ensure that all fire doors and escape doors meet the

required standards. We cannot do your risk assessment for you but we can ensure that all your fire doors

and escape doors are well maintained and in good working order. Our engineers are qualified door

technicians and a FSO Maintenance Contract with DORMA can form part of the control measures required

in your risk assessment.

DORMA UK Limited is the UK market leader in door maintenance. We have over 15 years experience of

servicing and maintaining automatic, manual and industrial doors. DORMA is a nationwide company with

four regional offices controlling nearly 200 directly employed engineers.
